Pothos Care
Pothos is one of my favorite vining house plants to grow! They come in all different colors and sizes. The most common type of Pothos is a variegated green/yellow variety.
Where To Buy Pothos:
- Pothos plants are sold in most plant stores or stores with a plant section including Lowes and Home Depot.
- Remember Pothos is a tropical plant, so they grow best in a warm humid environment. Somewhere between 70 and 85 degrees usually promotes the fastest and fullest growth. They prefer indirect lighting for direct light may burn their leaves. A North or South facing window would be perfect for this plant! Signs of sun damage include brown spots on the tops of the leaves or an abnormal amount of leaves falling off of the plant which results in bare spots on the vines. However, brown/dry spots on the tips of the leaves can mean a lack of air humidity. To help with this, I usually mist my plants 1 to 2 times per day.
- Just because they are tropical, however, doesn't mean they love a lot of water! I wait until the top of the soil looks completely dry, then I water thoroughly until water is draining out the bottom. Make sure your pot has proper drainage holes because standing water can cause great harm to your plant. If you notice your leaves start to turn yellow this can be a sign of overwatering.
- Pothos plants can easily be propagated by cutting a section at a node, or where a leaf branches off from a vine. The section you cut can then be placed in a cup of soil or in water. I personally have better luck using soil. After this, keep the soil moist at all times but do not let stand in water. If left in a warm area, you should have a new plant within 2 weeks!
