Aloe Plant Care

Planting:

If you are new to the succulent world, you're going to love Aloe's!  Aloe plants should be planted in a half compost half sand soil.  The sand allows for proper drainage.

Watering:

To tell if my Aloe plant is ready for watering I just squeeze the leaves.  If the leaves are fat and plump the plant doesn't need water.  When the Aloe plant leaves are thin, that's when I water.  Since the leaves hold most of the water the plant can go a few weeks without watering. Over watering can result in the yellowing of leaves.

Environment:

I leave my Aloe plant on the back porch.  I do not leave it in the full sun and it grows great, although full sun is ok for certain varieties. Dark green leaves indicate that direct sunlight may not make for the best environment, try a brightly lit North or South facing window instead. The best and fastest growth usually takes place between 70 and 80 degrees fahrenheit in the summer. Do Not let your plant get below freezing for this could kill it.
