Spider Plant Care

Spider plants come mostly in two colors, a variegated green/white, or an all green color. These plants are so fun to grow, especially when they send off a ton of shoots!

Environment

Spider plants love sunny areas just not to sunny.  They can be kept in direct sunlight for around an hour, but after that leaf burn may take place which could cause your plant to die. If you notice withering or brown leaves that can be a sign of to much sun. I've found that North or South facing windows provide the best amount of sunlight for my spider plants to strive! Given that they are tropical, air humidity must be kept relatively high to prevent the tips of your leaves from turning brown. I usually mist my plants once or twice per day.

Watering

Spider Plants have huge storage roots. This means that if you forget to water your plant every now and then, you should be alright. However, when you do decide to water wait till the top of the soil is completely dry then water through out the pot. Standing water is not a huge problem with this plant, however, if you do see a large number of your leaves turning yellow, you may need to reduce the amount of water you are giving your plant.

Propagation

Spider plants send of shoots which flower and have baby spider plants on the end. Wait till the spider plants on the end of the shoots have roots about 1/2 centimeter long. After this you can easy cut them off and stick them in some water or a cup of soil. If you decide to put them in soil, keep the container moist and in a bright indirect sunlit area. You should have a healthy plant within 1 to 2 weeks!!
